Welcome to the official website of the Ijebu Community Association in the Washington DC Metro Area. On this website, you will find information about Ijebuland and Nigeria in general, its economy, the richness of its culture, tourism & attractions, as well as useful links to help you discover Ijebuland and Nigeria. Our mission is to forge the strongest ties between Ijebuland and its children in the Diaspora. We are here to serve you.

The Ijebu Association of the United States of America was established by a group of Nigerian students in the 1970s and was appropriately named The Ijebu Students Association. 
The original intent of the organization, back then, was to provide a forum for moral, intellectual and psychological support for its members, and to ensure their well-being and academic success during their temporary sojourn in the United States.  The main aim of members of the group, as typical of all Nigerians back then, was to earn as many academic degrees as they were able to, and then go back to Nigeria to contribute to the development of their fatherland... There have been many versions of the history of the Ijebus written over the years.  Apparently, many authors collected their information from literature search, as well as from mental recollections of respectable elders in Ijebuland.  The following two versions are presented as examples, hoping that they would be read with open minds. 

The first version was prepared in commemoration of the 40th Coronation Anniversary of the currently reigning Awujale of Ijebuland, His Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona - Ogbagba II... click here

The second version was excerpted from a book titled: Itan Ido Ijebu by Dr. Badejo Oluremi Adebonojo, first published in 1990 by John West Publications, Ltd., Lagos, Nigeria.  Some information in this version was also taken from an unpublished manuscript by the same author, who has since died...click here
